day 2, Ballymaloe

Today we were in our chefs gear for the first time definitely looking like the new kids on the block. Once up at the school we had a quick visit to the cows (I’ve booked in to help with the milking later in the course) and the large compost bin for the hens and then back inside for a tour of the kitchens and finally – a bit of cooking! My cooking partner this week is Sharla who is from the States. For today we cooked as a group and made bread, pasta with mushroom sauce, carrot soup with various herbs and rhubarb crumble. There is always a green salad served in the largest salad bowl I’ve ever seen. So I’m definitely eating plenty greens. And I almost forgot – homemade lemonade – fabulous! After another excellent lunch, Darina demonstrated the dishes for tomorrow and then of course we had to taste – it’s a hard job but someone has to do it! So now I’ve done my homework and am off to bed – exhausted.
