day 1, Ballymaloe Cookery School

Tired as I am, I am going to give you a very brief version of what we did on our first day at the cookery school. It began with first morning breakfast for the students followed by an introductory talk by Darina Allen and a walk around the school grounds in between downpours. We all had to give a wee talk about why we had come to Ballymaloe and that was really interesting. There are 64 students and 14 nationalities! Lunch was prepared for us today and was delicious, with most of it locally produced. In the afternoon Darina demonstrated the dishes we are to cook tomorrow and then we tasted! At the end of the day I went for a walk to work off some of the lunch – well, maybe a small corner of the flapjack!
